Feature Updates

Quick SOAP Rx and Navigation Improvements

Quick SOAP has been updated to support prescription workflows and improve in-page navigation. These enhancements make it easier for clinicians to manage prescriptions and move between key sections of the medical record during appointments without switching views.

Multiple Vial Administration Setting

Combo vaccines now support a new Multiple Vial Administration setting, allowing clinics to better match inventory behavior to how vaccines are packaged and administered. This update improves lot tracking accuracy and ensures inventory deductions reflect real-world vaccine workflows.

  • New Multiple Vial Administration Setting: Available when the Combo Vaccination toggle is enabled.

  • Support for Single-Vial Combination Vaccines: When disabled, the selected lot applies to all vaccine rows and only one quantity is deducted for the administration.

  • Support for Multi-Vial Administrations: When enabled, each vaccine type can have its own lot selection and deducts inventory individually.

  • Same Lot Selection Supported: Clinics can choose the same lot across multiple vaccine rows when appropriate.

  • Improved Lot Editing Controls: In single-vial mode, only the first row allows lot editing and additional rows inherit that selection automatically.

  • Smarter QOH Warning Behavior: Quantity warnings appear only when the selected lot would result in insufficient inventory and disappear if a different lot is chosen.

Exported Medical Record Email Communication

Medical record export emails now include a professional default subject and message with clear download instructions and expiration details. Users can edit the message before sending, but blank emails are no longer allowed.

Inventory Visibility and Search Improvements

Inventory management has been improved with clearer transaction logs and expanded search capabilities. These updates make it easier to track stock changes, understand quantity adjustments, and quickly locate the correct inventory records.

  • Clearer Inventory Transaction Log: Updated column labels and improved calculations make it easier to understand how inventory levels change after each transaction.

  • Remaining QOH Column: A new column shows the remaining quantity on hand after each inventory event, providing better visibility into how stock levels change over time.

  • Improved Tooltips and Lot Guidance: Additional guidance helps explain how lot tracking impacts quantity updates and inventory calculations.

  • Custom ID Inventory Search: Inventory search now supports product Custom IDs in both the Inventory Items and Inventory Status tabs.

  • Consistent Search Across Inventory Views: Searching by Custom ID returns the correct linked inventory record in both inventory views, reducing time spent locating products.

Message Overview Dashboard

The dashboard now delivers a more complete and transparent view of messaging usage, balance changes, and credit purchases. With expanded activity logging, improved usage visibility, and full purchase history visibility, administrators can monitor SMS activity and billing with confidence.

Mandatory Patient Color Field

Patient Color is now required when creating new patient profiles to help with legal requirements in various states.

AI Updates

SummarizeAI

SummarizeAI can now be enabled or disabled in Clinic Settings by practice administrators. The feature is managed at the clinic level for consistent AI governance.

Boarding and Behavior Context Enhancements

SummarizeAI now delivers stronger behavioral insight by incorporating boarding history and clearer aggression context directly into patient summaries. These enhancements provide better preparation before appointments while reinforcing thoughtful clinical review.

  • Boarding Information Added: Boarding details now appear within the Clinical Summary and the Behavior and Lifestyle section.

  • Dedicated Boarding Subsection: A “Boarding” subsection appears under Behavior and Lifestyle.

  • Behavioral Patterns During Boarding: May highlight trends such as appetite changes, noise sensitivity, escape behaviors, or stress responses.

  • Owner Preferences Included: Captures documented feeding instructions, housing notes, and compatibility considerations.

  • Boarding-Related Medical Context: Surfaces relevant medical issues connected to past stays when documented.

  • Upcoming Boarding Visibility: Notes scheduled boarding stays within the next year when applicable.

  • Aggression Context Included: Documented aggression appears clearly within the Behavior summary.

  • Absence Statement When Not Documented: If no aggression is recorded, the summary states this and includes a reminder to use clinical judgment and review additional records.

  • Concise Output: Boarding summaries remain brief, typically 1 to 3 sentences for fast review.

TranscribeAI

Respect Clinic Default Weight & Temperature Units

TranscribeAI now defaults to your clinic’s configured weight and temperature units when no unit is specified in transcription, improving accuracy and clinical safety. Check out the updated video available now in our TranscribeAI Help Article.

OpenAPI Updates

Client Note Write Endpoint

A new OpenAPI endpoint allows approved integrations to write notes directly to the Client profile in Shepherd. This expands writeback capabilities beyond patient-level records and ensures important client communications are documented centrally and consistently.

  • New Endpoint: POST /pav2/open-api-client-notes/write

  • Direct Client Profile Writeback: Notes submitted through the API are added directly to the associated Client profile.

  • Integration Attribution: All API-created notes are logged in User Activity as a vendor integration action.

  • Environment Compatibility: Supported for both standalone clinics and multi-site groups.

Integrations & Data Connections

Companion Vision

Companion Vision allows practices to collect client-submitted pet videos and automatically link them to the correct patient chart in Shepherd. Videos appear directly within the medical record, and AI screening insights may be included when available. This helps teams prepare more effectively and incorporate visual context into clinical decisions. Learn more here.

EzMed Tech Scheduling

EZMedTech integrates with Shepherd to automate appointment reminders, reduce no-shows, and streamline client communication. This helps eliminate manual logbook entries, reduce reconciliation errors, and maintain accurate, audit-ready compliance records. Learn more here.

PassPaw (Open Beta)

The Passpaw integration helps veterinary practices manage international pet travel documentation more efficiently by connecting Shepherd patient records with Passpaw’s guided certification workflows. Clinics can import patient, client, and medical information directly from Shepherd to generate international health certificates, validate vaccine and treatment timing, and prepare documentation for USDA VEHCS endorsement. With destination-specific guidance and a client portal for trip management, Passpaw helps reduce paperwork, prevent documentation errors, and streamline the international travel preparation process. CSI-360

The CSI-360 integration connects Shepherd with RFID-enabled controlled substance cabinets to streamline medication tracking and compliance workflows.
