How to Add Diagnoses or Chronic Conditions

Learn how to enable diagnosis libraries and add conditions to patient records in Shepherd.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Shepherd allows you to add standardized diagnoses and chronic conditions using built-in diagnostic code libraries. Make sure the correct libraries are enabled before adding conditions like Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca, deafness, or Pyometra.

Supported Diagnostic Code Libraries

  • AAEP (American Association of Equine Practitioners): Equine and small animal diagnoses

  • AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association): Standardized codes for general practice use

  • SAS (Small Animal Standards): Focused on small animal conditions

Step 1: Enable Diagnosis Libraries

  1. Go to Admin → Clinic Settings → Clinical Settings.

  2. Under Diagnosis Settings, toggle on the appropriate libraries (AAEP, AAHA, SAS).

Step 2: Add a Diagnosis or Condition

  1. Open the patient’s record.

  2. Go to the Diagnoses or Chronic Conditions section.

  3. Search for the condition (for example, Pyometra, Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca, or deafness).

  4. Click to select and add it to the patient’s record.

Example: Adding Pyometra

  • Ensure the AAEP library is enabled.

  • Search for Pyometra and add it to the patient record.

This same process applies to all supported diagnosis libraries.
