If Your Prescription Labels Are Printing Smaller Than Expected

Learn how to fix prescription labels printing too small by adjusting Shepherd label templates and Chrome print settings.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

If your prescription (Rx) labels are printing smaller than they should, it’s usually due to one of two causes:

  • The wrong paper size or margins are selected in Chrome

  • The label template in Shepherd doesn’t match the physical labels in your printer

Step 1: Identify your label size

Check the label box, purchase order, or measure the label directly.

In Shepherd, go to Admin → Clinic Settings → Prescription Labels and confirm you’re using a matching template.

Step 2: Open Chrome print settings

When printing, click More settings in the Chrome print dialog.

Step 3: Adjust layout and paper settings

  • Set Layout to Landscape

  • Choose the correct Paper size for your label

    • For example, DYMO 2.13" x 2.75" labels use 30258 Diskette or a similar custom size (around 54 x 70 mm)

Step 4: Set margins and scale

  • Set Margins to None

  • Set Scale to Default

  • Uncheck Headers and footers and Background graphics

Step 5: Print again

Most browsers default DYMO printers to “30252 Address,” which is smaller. Double-check your paper size.

If labels are still printing small

  1. Confirm the label template in Shepherd matches the physical label size.

  2. If needed, create or duplicate a custom label under Admin → Clinic Settings → Prescription Labels.

  3. Recheck the Chrome print settings above and try printing again.

  4. If the issue persists, contact the Shepherd Support Team for assistance.
