Brother Label Printer Setup Instructions

Install Brother label printer on Windows/macOS.

Overview

These steps walk you through installing and configuring Brother label printers on Windows and macOS. You’ll install the correct drivers, add the printer via USB or network (Wi‑Fi/Ethernet), select the right media, and create custom label sizes.

Remember to setup a custom label template within Shepherd


1) Install the Printer Driver

Windows

  1. Search for your model (e.g., QL‑810W or QL‑820NWB).

  2. Download the Full Driver & Software Package for Windows.

  3. Run the installer, choose USB or Network (Wi‑Fi/Ethernet), and complete setup.

  4. Confirm the printer appears in Control Panel → Devices and Printers.

macOS

  1. Download the macOS driver package for your model.

  2. Open the .pkg file and follow the installer prompts.

  3. Open System Settings → Printers & Scanners.

  4. Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax… (the + button).

  5. Select your Brother printer and click Add.


2) Configure Printer Settings

Windows

  1. Open Control Panel → Devices and Printers.

  2. Right‑click your Brother printer → choose Printing Preferences (or Printer Properties).

  3. Go to Advanced → Printing Defaults.

  4. Select the correct Media Type (e.g., DK‑2205 Continuous Roll).

  5. For custom labels:

    • In Paper settings, click New.

    • Enter the Width and Length you need.

    • Name the size and Save it.

  6. Apply changes.

For continuous rolls, choose Continuous Length Tape and set the exact length in the software when printing.

macOS (using CUPS for custom sizes)

  1. Open a web browser and go to http://localhost:631.

    • If it does not load, open Terminal and run: sudo cupsctl WebInterface=yes, then reload the page.

  2. In CUPS, go to Administration → Manage Printers and select your printer.

  3. Under Administration → Set Default Options:

    • Choose Media Size → Continuous Length, or

    • Create a Custom Size with the required Width and Length.

  4. Save the settings.
