AKC Reunite Automatic Microchip Enrollment Uploads

Shepherd integration with AKC Reunite enables automatic enrollment of your AKC Reunite Microchips with Prepaid Enrollments! Activate AKC Reunite to save time and ensure the pets you microchip are enrolled when they leave your care!

How Does It Work?

  1. AKC Reunite scans Shepherd for AKC Reunite Microchips

    1. AKC Reunite enrolls your clinic's pet records that have a newly added or modified AKC Reunite microchip (starting with 956) around 8:15am and 3:15pm EDT.

    2. If the microchip is not already enrolled, AKC Reunite enrolls the pet patient’s microchip ID to the client aka Pet Owner.

    3. If the microchip is already enrolled, AKC Reunite does not pull any information for chips/pets already enrolled.

  3. The Pet Owner receives a welcome email from AKC Reunite that provides the pet owner information on how to maintain their pet’s enrollment records

AKC Reunite captures client and patient details when enrolling a microchip:

AKC Reunite sends error notification emails to the practice and directs the user to update the incorrect information. Once corrected, the enrollment will be reprocessed during the next scan.

How to Activate Automatic AKC Reunite Microchip Enrollment Uploads

Step 1

  • Go into the Shepherd 'Admin' menu, click on 'Integrations,' and then open AKC Reunite.

  • Once the AKC Reunite integration page is opened, toggle on the integration (see image below)

Step 2

  • Go into the Shepherd 'Admin' menu, click on 'Clinic Settings,' and locate your Clinic ID under the 'Clinic Info' tab > 'General' section.

  • Contact your AKC Reunite Account Manager at 800-252-7894 with your Shepherd Clinic ID and the calendar date do you want the integration to begin.

    • For example, you can do a “catch-up” and AKC Reunite can pull in all records from any date forward, like January 1, 2024.

Once activated, you will receive a “SUCCESS!” email confirmation:

On the first day of the active integration, AKC Reunite will enroll any pet record modified/added/updated starting with 956 that does not already exist in AKC Reunite’s database.

How to Create a Microchip Product

  • Admin users can create a microchip product under the ‘Admin’ menu > ‘Products’ page.

  • Select the blue Add New button in the ‘Products & Services’ tab.

  • To properly set up a microchip product, the ‘Product Type’ must be set to ‘Service,’ and the ‘Microchip’ toggle in the ‘Automatic Product Actions’ must be enabled.

Note: Make sure your Microchip product is marked as a Service product type in Shepherd. This will allow you to toggle on "Microchip" and will prompt you to enter the Microchip number when administered in a SOAP.
