Shepherd is fully integrated with HomeAgain for automatic registration of all microchip types.

How Does it Work?

  1. HomeAgain scans Shepherd for ALL microchips (not just HomeAgain microchips)
    Every few hours, HomeAgain reviews your clinic's added or modified pet records to capture details on pets that have had a microchip assigned to their profile since the last scan.

    • If the microchip is not already registered, HomeAgain creates an account and completes registration for the patient's microchip.

    • If the microchip is already registered, HomeAgain does not pull any information for chips/pets already registered.

  3. The client gets a welcome email/letter from HomeAgain

    Once registration is complete, the client will receive three welcome emails from HomeAgain (7 days apart from each other).

    • The first welcome email is typically sent within 12 hours of registration and includes an introduction to the program and instructions.

      • Note: If a client says they haven't received their welcome email, please ask them to check their spam/junk folder.

    • If an email address is not on file, then one welcome letter is sent via mail (that can take up to 2 weeks) containing the same information as the email. A QR code on the letter directs clients to the HomeAgain website to begin the enrollment process.

  4. Client Instructions

    • Clients will create an online account and fill out additional pet/pet owner information, along with an updated photo of the pet.

HomeAgain sends emails to the practice after each data capture, reporting any issues with registrations.

Activating the HomeAgain Integration

You will need to create a HomeAgain account before enabling the integration. Registering your veterinary practice, hospital, or clinic takes only a few minutes. Follow these simple instructions to register for a HomeAgain account:

  1. Select “Signup” in the top-right corner of the page.

  2. Fill out the required information requested. Be sure to select Shepherd as your software.

  3. You will receive an email confirmation when your HomeAgain account is activated.

  4. After submitting the form, you will schedule a call with a HomeAgain tech support agent. The call will only take a few minutes to connect to your server. Once connected, you can use your system while HomeAgain installs its program.

  5. The HomeAgain tech support agent will ask for a start date, Product ID(s) and instruct you to enable the integration. When ready, you will go into the Shepherd admin menu, click on integrations, and then open HomeAgain. Once the HomeAgain integration page is opened, toggle on the integration. (see image below)

Note: Make sure your Microchip product is marked as a Service product type in Shepherd. This will allow you to toggle on "Microchip" and will prompt you to enter the Microchip number when administered in a SOAP.
