Provides a detailed breakdown of taxable and non-taxable sales by tax rate to support reconciliation and sales tax filing accuracy.

Purpose

The Sales Tax Report provides a detailed breakdown of taxable and non-taxable sales for a selected time period. Use it to reconcile collected tax amounts and prepare accurate filings with your accounting team.


Filters

Filter

Description

Time Period

Choose from predefined ranges (e.g., This Month, Last Month) to define your reporting window.

After selecting filters, click View Report. Use Clear to reset all selections.


Report Tabs

The report contains four tabs grouped into two accounting methods:

Accrual Basis

  • Sales Summary

  • Sales Tax Amounts

Cash Basis

  • Sales Summary

  • Sales Tax Amounts


Report Columns

Each row corresponds to a tax rate and displays related sales data.

Column

Description

Zip Code (coming 11/5)

The Zip Code of the tax rate (coming 11/5).

Tax Rate

The sales tax percentage applied (e.g., 6.00%, 8.30%).

Taxable Sales

Sales subject to tax, excluding return sales.

Taxable Return Sales

Value of return sales for taxable items.

Net Taxable Sales

Taxable Sales - Taxable Return Sales.

Non-Taxable Sales

Sales not subject to tax, excluding returns.

Non-Taxable Return Sales

Value of returns for non-taxable items.

Net Non-Taxable Sales

Non-Taxable Sales - Non-Taxable Return Sales.

Total Sales

Combined total of Net Taxable and Net Non-Taxable Sales.

Tip: Negative values indicate returns or refunds.


Export Options

  • View Report - Generate the interactive table within Shepherd.

  • Download (PDF/CSV) - Export the full report.

  • Table Specific CSV Download - Export the visible table only.


Tips for Use

  • A 0.00% tax rate typically indicates tax-exempt items such as services.

  • Use column sorting to organize data by tax rate or total sales.

  • Accrual vs. Cash Basis: Select the method that aligns with your accounting process.

  • Download reports regularly for monthly reconciliation or tax filing.
