The Sales Tax Report in Shepherd gives you a detailed breakdown of your taxable and non-taxable sales for a selected time period. This is especially useful for reconciling sales tax collected and preparing for tax filing.

πŸ—“ Time Period

Use the Time Period dropdown at the top of the report to select the timeframe you want to view (e.g., "This Month", "Last Month", etc.).

πŸ”„ Don't forget to click View Report after selecting a time period to update the data.

πŸ“Š Report Tabs

There are four tabs and two sales tax accounting methods included in the report:

  • Accrual Basis Sales Summary

  • Accrual Basis Sales Tax Amounts

  • Cash Basis Sales Summary

  • Cash Basis Sales Tax Amounts

πŸ“‹ Understanding the Columns & Rows

Each row in the table corresponds to a tax rate and displays sales data related to that rate.
Here’s what each column means:

Column Name

Description

Tax Rate

The percentage of sales tax applied (e.g., 6.00%, 8.30%).

Taxable Sales

Sales that are subject to the tax rate (excluding return sales).

Taxable Return Sales

Amount of return sales processed for taxable items.

Net Taxable Sales

The net taxable amount (Taxable Sales - Taxable Return Sales).

Non-Taxable Sales

Sales that were not subject to sales tax (excluding return sales).

Non-Taxable Return Sales

Returns for items that were non-taxable.

Net Non-Taxable Sales

The net amount of non-taxable sales (Non-Taxable Sales - Non-Taxable Return Sales).

Total Sales

The sum of Net Taxable Sales and Net Non-Taxable Sales for the tax rate.

πŸ” Tip: Negative values often indicate returns or refunds.

πŸ“₯ Viewing & Download Options

You can interact with the report in three ways:

  • View Report (button): Generate an interactive visual within Shepherd.

  • Download (button): Get a copy of the full current report as a PDF or CSV.

  • Table Specific CSV Download: A quick download of the current table in CSV format for spreadsheet use.

πŸ“Œ Things to Note

  • A 0.00% tax rate typically means those sales had no sales tax applied (often services or exempt items).

  • The Total Sales column reflects the overall financial impact for each tax rate grouping.

  • You can sort columns by clicking the small arrows next to each header for easier analysis.
