Creating and Deleting Prescriptions

Learn how to create and delete an Rx, both within a SOAP and outside of a SOAP if being prescribed outside of a visit.

Updated over a week ago

Prescriptions can be created within a SOAP if an Rx is being prescribed during a visit or directly from the patient profile if an Rx is being prescribed outside of a visit.

Creating an Rx

Creating an Rx in a SOAP

After you’ve navigated to the Rx section of the SOAP, click the +Add New button on the right side of the screen.

Creating an Rx outside of a SOAP

From the patient profile, select the + icon under the Prescriptions section.

Once the Rx page has been opened, you’ll see fields for:

  • In-House/Written: determines whether the client needs to go to a pharmacy for the Rx or if you can fill it in-house

  • Medication: the product you're prescribing

  • Quantity Dispensed: quantity of the medication prescribed for each refill

  • No. of Refills: Number of refills for the prescription

  • Expiration Date: when the prescription (not the product) expires

  • Calculate Quantity: generates a calculator that helps you determine quantity based on the doses you need per prescription

  • Directions: usually for administration, these print on the Rx label and are different than discharge instructions

  • Prescribing Doctor: doctor who wrote the Rx; populates in the record and can used for production tracking

Once the appropriate fields have been filled out, select Save and Print or Save to add it to their record and invoice, and automatically populate any discharge instructions associated with the prescription.

Tip: You can use shortcuts or create Product Default Directions under the product settings in Admin to have pre-populated directions when creating a new Rx.

Deleting an Rx

Deleting an Rx in a SOAP

If you created an Rx incorrectly or the client decides not to take the medication, you will open the Rx from the SOAP and select the Edit icon under Actions.

Once the Edit Prescription page is opened, you will select the delete/trash icon to remove or cancel the Rx and then enter a reason for the Rx being canceled. This will remove the Rx from the SOAP and patient history.
